Here at Studio 100 JBW, we believe people are the heart and soul of our business, which is why we wanted them to share a little bit about themselves…

ELENA BARBOUTIS

What’s your favourite meal? And when did you last have it?
A good bowl of seafood pasta would have to be my favourite meal. I recently had a great one at The Deck Restaurant in Airlie Beach, it was absolutely delicious.

If you could jump on a plane tomorrow, where would you go and why?
It would have to be south of France and Monaco/Monte Carlo. This was one of those most memorable places to visit for me and I would love to get back there. Plus, there are many more spots I would love to explore in that part of the world.

What’s one thing that few people know about you?
Some of my closest friends and parents call me Alyona, (Russian: Алёна), which is a colloquial name for Elena in Russian. They would never call me Elena, as it sounds very formal.

What do you do in your down time?
In my downtime I like to draw. I used to paint in the past, and I had my paintings featured in the Art Gallery of NSW during the Year 12 Art Express Exhibition. Lately, watercolour pencils have been my choice of media. I usually draw animals, flowers or women with extravagant accessories. Drawing is a form of relaxation for me :)

What’s a lighting project that’s near and dear to your heart?
I’m currently working on a penthouse project with Woods Bagot, which is located in the heart of Sydney and has a 360° views of our beautiful city. This project is pretty special, because of the nature of the design, beautifully selected finishes and of course iGuzzini lighting throughout.

What’s your go-to lighting product?
My go-to lighting product range would have to be the Laser Blade XS; I love the compact nature of the luminaire and its high visual comfort, which is achieved with high definition optics. The precision and impact of such a miniature downlight really is extraordinary. I also really love the Tolomeo Lamp by Artemide. I have many different versions of these at home, and find them very functional and aesthetically beautiful.
