Project Description

Macquarie Street, SYDNEY

Given the varied uses of 151 Macquarie lobby as a beacon to the street, lounge, waiting and transitional space, the lighting strategy serves to define a legible and impactful atmosphere.

LIGHTING APPLICATION: GENERAL LIGHTING

Macquarie Street, Sydney

Designed by Sydney-based Pike Withers, 151 Macquarie Street revitalises the commercial building’s common spaces, improving street identity and elevating the everyday experience of tenants. Crafted details, premium materials and superior craftsmanship deliver an elegant interior that represents the quality of the building’s office spaces, while befitting its exclusive corporate location.

A timber-clad entry wall sails from the front portico of 151 Macquarie Street into the lobby, presenting a striking visual identity from exterior to interior. iGuzzini Blade In Out fittings with custom transverse optics are integrated into the architectural form, enhancing the entry statement with subtle illumination while delivering superior luminance control.

Internally, recessed lighting channels follow the rectilinear forms of the architecture to create a minimalist and enduring design language. Laser Blade Q936 general light pro fittings by iGuzinni are embedded in black ceiling channels, delivering a graphic, directional quality while providing excellent general illumination.

Individual Laser Blade Q936 general light pro are carefully positioned to highlight the lobby’s dramatic marble-clad columns, celebrating the natural beauty of the premium material. At a colour temperature of 3000k, these fittings bring warmth to the space while optimising light emission and reducing glare with their unique diffuser filter.

Luxurious lounge settings are complemented by a captivating array of contemporary art, including a geometric sculpture by celebrated Australian artist Peter Cole and a series of colourful abstract paintings. iGuzinni’s Laser Blade MQ74 wall washer in a custom black recessed profile provides targeted illumination – and with a high colour-rendering index, accurately depicts the artwork’s genuine hues.

The prominent lines of the lobby are reinterpreted as vertical elements in the building’s lifts. A single Laser Blade Q588 XS downlight provides general illumination, while two Q471 Laser Blade XS wall washers create a vertical light blade at each edge of the lift car. Finished with a timber ceiling, the detailing of the lifts thoughtfully maintains the refined and sumptuous language of the lobby interior, ensuring continuity at every touchpoint.

Given the varied uses of 151 Macquarie lobby as a beacon to the street, lounge, waiting and transitional space, the lighting strategy serves to define a legible and impactful atmosphere. The integrated approach to illumination crafts a seamless visual experience; a bright and elegant space and a key point of difference within an increasingly competitive commercial market.
